Pool Pump Shaft Seal Air Leak

Proper and ongoing maintenance of your pool motor is inevitable.
Pool pump shaft seal air leak. Leaking pump shaft seal. I had an air leak somewhere between the bottom of my pool or skimmers and the pump. Undetected and or ignored a shaft seal leak can potentially create further damage to the pump itself and could necessitate replacement of the pump or motor components. In the case of a really bad suction air leak you will see a lot of air and the water will be splashing around under the pump lid.
Before opening a pool pump to replace a seal be sure to inspect all other components of the pump for leaks. When the shaft seal fails it allows water to run down the backside of the seal plate through the hole where the motor shaft slides through. If not addressed the pump fitting can disengage from the pump creating a large spray of water which can even empty out your pool. It is the symptom of a problem one that could be a minor or major fix.
The seal is supposed to prevent water leakage when the motor is in operation. The seal is the most difficult leaking pool pump repair and should be attempted as a last resort. If the leak happens in the spot where the motor is attached to the pump it could be due to a deficient shaft seal. A suction side air leak is most commonly indicated by air under the pump lid.
Leaks from manifold cracks threaded connections and loose winterization plugs can all leak. When i put the pump back together it ran great with no leaks for about 24 hours then we noticed that when the pump kicked back on the following day there was a noticeable leak coming from. Pump seal mechanical seal where the shaft of the motor enters the back of the pump there is a mechanical seal. In a minor case you will just see a tiny stream air bubbles under the pump lid.
This has not shown to be a major problem on other types of pumps or pumps manufactured within the past 7 8 years. Or the pump wont even be able to suck water only air. If you have a wet floor or other pump problems as described above something needs to be fixed. Every pool pump has a mechanical shaft seal which prevents water from leaking along the motor shaft behind the impeller.
It is not. I have a hayward super pump and we have been having a leaking problem i replaced the shaft seal and the ceramic seal as well as some of the other o rings. The source of the water can be difficult to locate. Excess air in your pool s pump and filter is much more than just a nuisance.
