Pond Drain Pipe Design

Outlet structures are built to keep the water surface in the pond at its optimum level and to be able to drain the pond for maintenance.
Pond drain pipe design. Do not dig a vertical trench to dig out the old pipe or to install a pipe in a pond without a pipe. To drain the pond remove the pipe f and its extension screw an end cap into the t pipe at d close the pipe at the end of point c. A pipe can also allow you to set an exact water level with options to raise or lower the water level by adding or removing pipe extensions. If you suspect a blockage in your pipes you should consult with your municipal stormwater division or have an engineer inspect the outlet.
Fix it in the set position with the chain or rope. A close the vent b cap the outflow pipe c attach a vacuum pump to vent pipe d pump out air and remove outflow cap when pipe is full of water. Spillway pipe can be installed several ways. If there is too much water in your pond it may flow over the banks.
You might have a riser you might not. If you are undecided on whether a bottom drain is right for your pond design if you need more help wrapping your arms around the concept or you simply want to discuss options for your pond please feel free to contact our office toll. Do not attempt to fill the old pipe with concrete. When the difference between the water level and the outflow pipe reaches about two feet flow may stop.
Completely remove old pipe and collars. To regulate the water level in the pond set the pipe at the required angle by turning it up or down. Sometimes a drop inlet style pipe can replaced with a canopy inlet design. On occasion the outlet pipe can collapse or become clogged below ground.
Sometimes a drain pipe at the pond bottom is connected to the spillway so you can lower or empty the pond for repairs fish harvests or weed cleanups. When the water is above the low point of the open pipe at point f a vacuum forms and the system will siphon and dramatically increase the amount of flow through the pipes. For instance your pipe design may allow for release of bottom water. The emergency spillway handles big rains the pipe takes care of normal rains.
Consult with your engineer about the possibility. Based on its design your piping system may offer other management strategies too. You may have a valve so you can drain the pond from time to time. Most ponds will require 3 or 4 bottom drains so we will only cover these pipe sizes in this exercise.
When it has reached the horizontal position remove the elbow pipe from the end of the. Overflows can cause costly erosion damage to the infrastructure. It will wash out. To drain the pond turn the vertical pipe down progressively iollowing the water level as it drops.
